Steven is a proven Banking Executive with extensive experience in all aspects of the business cycle. He has a well-developed knowledge of risk and effective risk management practices, as well as, a history of developing and implementing corrective action to strengthen an institution’s culture. While growing up on a small farm in Craig County Oklahoma, Steven met his future bride (Kay). In High School, Steven attended Vo-Tech and learned how to be a bricklayer. He then attended Roger State College at night while working as a mason during the day. Steven began his banking career at BancFirst in Stillwater. Following his time in Stillwater, Steven took a position with the Comptroller of the Currency (bank regulator). As a National Bank Examiner, his career focused on problem institutions and the largest most complex banks, which included serving on a task force during the 2008 banking crisis. Wanting to return back to Oklahoma, Steven took a position with the Federal Reserve Bank continuing his bank regulator career. In 2011, Steven became the Chief Lending Officer for American Heritage Bank in Sapulpa. His responsibilities included managing 48 officers and marketing staff, maintaining effective credit risk management of a $420 million loan portfolio, being the liaison to State and Federal regulators, and serving as the Chairperson for ALCO. Steven also acquired three banks for American Heritage, growing the assets from $750 million to $1.1 billion. The acquisition process included due diligence, negotiating definitive agreements, filing applications with regulatory agencies, and assimilate acquired bank’s culture. In October 2017, Steven had an opportunity to come full circle and return to Claremore where he and Kay began their family many years ago and back to BancFirst where his banking career started. He is the President of BancFirst Claremore where he oversees five locations in three communities. In his time there, Steven has effectively doubled the size of the bank and increased earnings by 85%. Most importantly, he has assembled a group of Officer and staff that will effectively operate the bank well after he retires. Steven is actively involved many organizations including serving as Chairman of the Claremore Area Chamber of Commerce in the difficult pandemic year of 2020. He currently serves on the RSU Foundation Board where he chairs the Investment Committee. Steven also serves on the Board of the Will Rogers Foundation.
